I am a full blooded Navajo Indian. In my culture it is proper when introducing oneself, that they say their clans. My clans are Tl'aashchí'í born for Ta'néészahnii. My maternal grandfather's clan is Naakaii Dine'é and I do not know my paternal grandfather's clan.
Traditionally the clan that a child belongs to is their mother's. Therefore I am Red Bottom clan, my father's clan is Badlands People. The clan system is very important because it gives you a sense of who you are and also establishes your relations with other navajo people, although the relation is not through blood it is stil strong.
Educatation
I am also a recent high school graduate of Navajo Preparatory School. I graduated in May of 2006. I attended Navajo Prep for all four years of high school. It is a private school and students have the choice to stay on campus in the dorms. The school was a decent one and the stepping stone for my education.
To me education is a very important and powerful tool in today's soceity. Without it one's life would be challenging. As a recent high school graduate I am at the pedestal of a great endeavor. I will be attending New Mexico State University in the fall of 2006. I will be an incoming freshmen and stay in the dorm at Las Cruces
While at NMSU I plan to major in psychology. I have always been fascinated with the mind and how it works. I want to get an idea why people make different decisions in different situations. I also have an interest in chemistry and computer science. I also feel that education is key in today's society and to be successful it is needed.
