Tuesday 28 October 2008 - Memorial Union Cardinal Room

Registration is free! Register by October 22 by contacting Linda Mosman via email (lmosman@iastate.edu) or FAX (294-6755). Use "Workshop on Translational Biology" as the subject line and include your name, departmental affiliation, and email address. Be sure to note whether you would like to accompany the speakers to the Monday dinner, Tuesday breakfast, or Tuesday dinner listed below.

Description

Translational biology is a field that bridges the gap between basic and applied research. Whereas basic researchers determine how organisms work and applied researchers use information as tools to improve medicine, agriculture, and the environment; translational biologists work to fill the gap between the two disciplines. These researchers 'translate' basic findings into useful tools for downstream applications. For more information on the field of translational research, see the 17 August 2007 issue of Science.

Join us for the Iowa State University Workshop on Translational Biology on Tuesday, October 28. Drs. Bill Beavis, Michael Dyer, Jason Gans, Dave Hyten, and Rich Zuerner will present their contributions to this exciting area of research. Seminars will focus on plant biology, bioinformatics, and medical research with an open forum to follow. For more information or to set up a time to meet with the speakers, email Carolyn Lawrence at triffid@iastate.edu.
